Ponomariov was born in Gorlovka in Ukraine. In 1994 he came third in the World Under-12 Championship at the age of ten, and the following year won it at the age of eleven. In 1996 he won the European Under-18 Championship at the age of just twelve, and the following year won the World Under-18 Championship. In 1998, at the age of fourteen, he was awarded the International Grandmaster title, making him the youngest ever player at that time to hold the title. Among Ponomariovs notable later results are first at the Donetsk Zonal in 1998, 5/7 in the European Club Cup 2000 (including a victory over then-FIDE World Champion Alexander Khalifman), joint first with 7.5/9 at Torshavn 2000, 8.5/11 for Ukraine in the 2001 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, winning gold medal on board 2, and first place with 7/10 in the 2001 Governors Cup in Kramatorsk. In 2002 he beat his fellow countryman Vasily Ivanchuk in the final of the FIDE Knock-Out World Championship by a score of 4.5-2.5 to become FIDE world champion at the age of eighteen, the first teenager to ever become world champion. In the same year he finished second in the very strong Linares chess tournament tournament behind Garry Kasparov. His result in the strong 2003 Corus chess tournament at Wijk aan Zee was less good - despite having the third highest Elo rating, he finished only join eleventh out of fourteen players with 6/13, and at Linares the same year he finished only fifth out of seven with 5.5/12 (as this was a very strong tournament, this wasnt necessarily a bad result). There were plans for him to play a fourteen game match against Kasparov in Yalta in September 2003, the winner of which would go on to play the winner of a match between Vladimir Kramnik and Pter Lk as part of the so-called Prague Agreement to reunify the world chess championship (since 1993 there have been two world chess championships). However, this was called off after Ponomariov refused to sign his contract without reservation. He will remain FIDE champion until the winner of the Knock-Out World Championship has been determined at the end of 2003. On October 11, 2003, Ponomariov became the first high-profile player to default a game because of his mobile phone ringing during play. This happened in round one of the European Team Championship in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, when Ponomariov was playing black against Evgenij Agrest. In his games with white, Ponomariov has almost always played 1. e4 (see algebraic notation and chess opening), entering the main lines of the Ruy Lopez and Sicilian Defence. With black, he has played the Sicilian against 1. e4 and also replied 1... e5, going into the Ruy Lopez. Against 1. d4 he has adopted a variety of defences, including the Queens Gambit Accepted, the Queens Indian Defence and the Kings Indian Defence. Earlier in his career he experimented with the Benko Gambit and Pirc Defence, but as of 2003 these have fallen out of his repertoire. In the January 2005 Fdration Internationale des checs Elo rating list, Ponomariov had a rating of 2700, making him number fifteen in the world and Ukrainian number two.
Preceded by:
Viswanathan Anand World chess champion
20022004 Followed by:
Rustam Kasimdzhanov

Fong-Sai-Yuk

Fong Sai Yuk, also known as Fang Shi Yu in Mandarin or The Legend in North America, is a 1993 Hong Kong kung fu movie starring Jet Li and directed by Corey Yuen. It tells the tale of Fong Sai Yuk, a young kung-fu master who spends his days playing around with his friends instead of learning. He slowly comes to learn that his father is the head of the Red Flower Society, a group dedicated to bringing down the evil Chinese Emperor (one of the Chinese Triads). The rest of this film watches as Fong Sai Yuk matures into the legendary China warrior he comes to be. The film has strong comic elements and features Fong Sai Yuks mother as a main character. The village was formed on April 1st, 1937, when the two townships of Reisweiler and Labach were joint together as Reisbach. Reisweiler was first mentioned as Radisville in 1154. The Germanic name Radi means father of the town council, which, together with the -ville suffix meaning farmland, yields the meaning of Reisweiler as Radis Farmland. The first written documentation about Labach stems from the 13th century, when it was known under the name Loupach or Loupbach. The name is composed from Loup meaning foliage (german Laub) and Bach meaning creek. The name of the consolidated village, thus means Radis Creek. Since January 1st, 1974, Reisbach forms the community of Saarwellingen (municipality), together with Saarwellingen (town) and Schwarzenholz (town) with a combined 14,000 inhabitants.
History
In 1212, Count Heinrich von Zweibrcken gave his ownership of the villages Reisweiler and Labach to the convent Fraulautern. The knights Marsilius and Reiner and their relative Marsilius von Lisdorf donated their stake in the patronship to the Church of Reisweiler in 1237. Labach belonged to the lordship of Schwarzenholz, and thus the abbey of Fraulautern, until 1792, when the French Revolution changed everything. It also ended the ownership of the Grafschaft Saarbrcken and the Lord of Hagen over Reisweiler.
Coat of Arms

The coat of arms resembles the rulerships over the two villages: The base is the coat of arms of the Lords of Saarbrcken (Lisdorf), the diagonal bar, while the red and gold colors stem from the coat of arms of the Lords of Zweibrcken. The two fields formed by the diagonal bar stand for the two villages which form Reisbach: the upper field for Labach, with the crossed circle of the abbey of Fraulautern, the lower field for Reisweiler, with the cross of the Lords of Bolchen.
Reisbach was given the right to bear a coat of arms on May 11th, 1964.

Brackenridge,-Pennsylvania

Brackenridge is a borough located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The environment, in return, provides a reward (which can be positive or negative). Reinforcement learning algorithms attempt to find a policy for maximizing cumulative reward for the agent over the course of the problem. The environment is typically formulated as a finite-state Markov decision process (MDP), and reinforcement learning algorithms for this context are highly related to dynamic programming techniques. State transition probabilities and reward probabilities in the MDP are typically stochastic but stationary over the course of the problem. Reinforcement learning differs from the supervised learning problem in that correct input/output pairs are never presented, nor sub-optimal actions explicitly corrected. Further, there is a focus on on-line performance, which involves finding a balance between exploration (of uncharted territory) and exploitation (of current knowledge). Formally, the basic reinforcement learning model consists of: a set of environment states S, a set of actions A, and a set of scalar rewards in R. At each time t, the agent perceives its state stS and the set of possible actions A(st. It chooses an action aA(st and receives from the environment the new state st+1 and a reward rt+1 Based on these interactions, the reinforcement learning agent must develop a policy SA which maximizes the quantity R r0r1...+rn for MDPs which have a terminal state, or the quantity R StGtrt for MDPs without terminal states (where G is some future reward discounting factor between 0.0 and 1.0). Thus, reinforcement learning is particularly well suited to problems which include a long-term versus short-term reward tradeoff. It has been applied successfully to various problems, including robot control, elevator scheduling, telecommunications, backgammon and chess.
Algorithms
After we have defined an appropriate return function to be maximised, we need to specify the algorithm that will be used to find the policy with the maximum return. There are two main approaches, the value function approach and the direct approach. Brute force is not used, as it entails the following two steps: a) For each possible policy, sample returns while following it. b) Choose the policy with the largest expected return. The first problem is that the number of policies can be extremely large, or even infinite. The second is that returns might be stochastic, in which case a large number of samples will be required to accurately estimate the return of each policy. These problems might be ameliorated if we assume some structure in the problem and somehow allow samples generated from one policy to influence the estimates made for another. Value function approaches do this by only maintaining a set of estimates of expected returns for one policy (usually either the current or the optimal one). In such approaches one attempts to estimate either the expected return starting from states and following thereafter, V(s) E Rs, or the expected return when taking action a in states and following thereafter, Q(s,a) E Rs,a,. It is easy to see why, if someone gives us Q for the optimal policy, we can always choose optimal actions by simply choosing the action with the highest value at each state. In order to do this using V, we must either have a model of the environment, in the form of probabilities P(ss,a), which allow us to calulate Q simply through <math>Q(s,a) sum-{s} V(s)P(ss,a),</math> or we can employ so-called Actor-Critic methods, in which the model is split into two parts: the critic, which maintains the state value estimate V, and the actor, which isresponsible for choosing the appropriate actions at each state. Given a fixed policy, Estimating E R. for G 0 is trivial, as one only has to average the immediate rewards. The most obvious way to do this for G>0 is to average the total return after each state. However this type of Monte Carlo sampling requires the MDP to terminate. Thus carrying out this estimation for <math> gamma>0</math> in the general does not seem obvious. In fact, it is quite simple once one realises that the expectation of R forms a recursive Bellman equation: <math>E R s-t r-t + gamma E R s-{t+1} </math> By replacing those expectations with our estimates, V, and performing gradient descent with a squared error cost function, we obtain the temporal difference learning algorithm TD(0). In the simplest case, the set of states and actions are both discrete and we maintain tabular estimates for each state. Similar state-action pair methods are SARSA and Q-learning. All methods feature extensions whereby some approximating architecture is used, though in some cases convergence is not guaranteed. The estimates are usually updated with some form of gradient descent, though there have been recent developments with least-squares methods for the linear approximation case. Perhaps surprisingly, all the above methods not only converge to the correct estimates for a fixed policy, but can also be used to find the optimal policy. This is usually done by following a policy that is somehow derived from the current value estimates, i.e. by choosing the action with the highest evaluation most of the time, while still occassionally taking random actions in order to explore the space. Proofs for convergence to the optimal policy also exist for the algorithms mentioned above, under certain conditions. However, all those proofs only demonstrate asymptotic convergence and little is known theoretically about the behaviour of RL algorithms in the small-sample case, apart from within very restricted settings. An alternative method to find the optimal policy is to search directly in policy space. Policy space methods define the policy as a parametrised function (s,T) with parameters T. Commonly, a gradient method is employed to adjust the parameters. However, the application of gradient methods is not trivial, since no gradient information is assumed. Rather, the gradient itself must be estimated from noisy samples of the return. Since this greatly increases the computational cost, it can be advantageous to use a more powerful gradient method than steepest gradient descent. Policy space gradient methods have received a lot of attention in the last 5 years and have now reached a relatively mature stage, but they remain an active field.
Current Research
As far as I am aware, current research topics include: Alternative representations (such as the Predictive State Representation approach), gradient descent in policy space, small-sample convergence results, algorithms and convergence results for partially observable MDPs, modular and hierarchical reinforcement learning.
References
Leslie Kaelbling, Michael Littman, Andrew Moore. Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards met one another through classified ad in Los Angeles. From there the two started recording four track demos and playing gigs around LA with Gauss. Just over a year after forming, Failure was signed to Slash Records, a Warner Brothers imprint label, around 1991. After the release of Comfort (1992), Drummer Robert Gauss left the band. Kelii Scott was brought in to finish up drumming duties on the bands sophomore effort Magnified (1994). Following the release of Magnified, Failure went on tour with fellow rockers Tool-%28band%29. The bands third and final album Fantastic Planet (1996) was released after a year and a half delay. Troy Van Leeuwen joined the band as lead guitarist when the band toured to support Fantastic Planet. Of note, Failure joined the Lollapalooza tour in 1997, playing the main stage. Also in 1997, they recorded a cover of Depeche Modes Enjoy The Silence for a tribute album, For the Masses. At some point during 1997, the band decide to come to an end. In part due to poor support from the label, the delay in release of Fantastic Planet, and substance abuse. Though largely forgotten today, they scored a low level alt. rock hit with their single Stuck On You off of Fantastic Planet. The band remains very influential among other bands and musicians through the legacy of Failure, and through the band members other projects. While never gaining wide-spread fame, they garnered high critical praise through out their seven year career. In the year of 2004, Edwards and Andrews released a CD/DVD set entitled Golden. This collection of B-sides includes a complete set of their music videos and live concert footage. Also featured was a 40-minute long documentary that details the history of the band along with some behind-the-scenes footage of the band members.
Discography

Comfort (1992)
Engineered by Steve Albini Ken Andrews (Vocals / Lead Guitar) Greg Edwards (Bass Guitar) Robert Gauss (Drums)
Magnified (1994)
Produced by Failure Recorded by Paul Lani Mixed by David Bianco and Ken Andrews Ken Andrews (Vocals / Lead Guitar) Greg Edwards (Bass Guitar / Drums)
Fantastic Planet (1996)
Produced by Failure Engineered by Ken Andrews Ken Andrews (Vocals / Guitar) Greg Edwards (Bass Guitar / Guitar / Percussion / Piano) Kellii Scott (Drums)
Where Are They Now?
Ken Andrews has moved on to be a well known producer, mixer, and engineer. Troy Van Leeuwen played with A Perfect Circle, who covered Failures The Nurse Who Loved Me on their album Thirteenth Step. Troy is currently a member of Queens of the Stone Age, who have an album forthcoming in early 2005. Greg Edwards is the guitarist and one of the vocalists of the art rock band Autolux, who released their debut album, Future Perfect, on October 26th, 2004 to general critical praise. In 1931 the England mountaineer Frank Smythe stumbled across the paradisal Bhyundar Valley, an 8-km long glacier corridor in Chamoli Garhwal. This area, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and carpeted with flowers- some 500 species soon became a protected site. It was declared a national park in 1982. The Valley of Flowers stretches over an expanse of 87.50 sq km. This part of Uttaranchal, in the upper reaches of Garhwal, is inaccessible through much of the year. The area lies on Zaskar range of Himalayas with the highest point in the national park being Gauri Parbat at 6,719m above sea level. Flowers mostly orchids, poppies, primulas, Marigold, daisies and anemones carpet the ground. Alpine flora forests of birch and rhododendron cover a part of the area, and are home to tahr, snow leopard, musk deer, red fox, common langur, bharal, serow, Himalayan black bear and a huge variety of butterflies. There is no settlement in the national park and grazing in the area has been banned. The park is open only in summers between June and October. During rest period it is covered by heavy snow.

Angela-Perez-Baraquio

Angela Perez Baraquio now Angela Perez Baraquio Gray, was crowned Miss America 2001 on October 14, 2000 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In 1980, having become a kind of idol of French X-rated film industrys golden age, she decided to put an end to her hardcore career and appeared in more traditional movies and big productions, such as I comme Icare (Henri Verneuil, 1980) in which she played a prostitute, and in Pour la peau dun flic (Alain Delon, 1981) in which she played a nurse. However, she also made some softcore and Nazi video nasties during this time. At the end of her acting career, she became famous in the general public by participating in the famous French radio show, Les Grosses Ttes, which is broadcast on RTL (French radio). She also tried to become a singer, with the single Caresse tendresse, without any commercial success or even professional appreciation. She is now the star animator on RMC Info of the daily show Lahaie, lAmour et Vous , from 14:00 to 16:00, which is mostly dealing with essential topics of human and sexual relations.
